Davisburg
Mass Station was proposed in response to a large population
growth in the North Oakland area. In 1999, Adam Cardinal Maida
approved the planning of a new parish to begin forming in Davisburg.
The parish was recommended as part of a Vicariate of the Lakes
Master Plan proposed by the Vicariate Planning Committee chaired
by the Vicar, Msgr. Robert Humitz of St. Daniel.
*In September of 2001 the Archdiocese completed the purchase
of 130 acres of land on the south side of Davisburg Road, just
west of Ormond Road.
*On July 14, 2003 there was an exploration meeting held for
the Davisburg Mass Station and attended by representatives
from four parishes, St. Daniel, St. Rita, Our Lady of the Lakes
and Holy Spirit. On July 28, 2003 the Steering Committee began
holding monthly meetings to plan for their first Mass.
* Adam Cardinal Maida made a regular appointment of Fr. Albert
Sescon as Associate Pastor of St. Rita's in Holly and to provide
for the needs of the Davisburg Mass Station. Appointment is
as a Parochial Associate to St. Rita's and includes servicing
the needs of other parishes in the Vicariate of the Lakes.
The appointment was effective on July 15, 2003, until June
30, 2004, with the possibility of an extension and renewal
as the situation develops. Fr. Albert is a Diocesan Priest
from the Philippines considering the possibility of becoming
a Priest in the Archdiocese of Detroit |
